Fear of cannabis
How as a county do, we go from hemp as a commodity to hemp as an illegal drug! Fear, propaganda, and lack of education come to mind. In the 1930’s a ridiculous film was produced called “Reefer Madness”. Movies were a new thing and what a great way to scare and get everyone’s attention!
This is during a time when Marijuana is bad, and smoking is good. Huh? Wait a minute, hold up.
Check this out.
‘Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day. On average, smokers die 10 years earlier than nonsmokers.’
This little nugget came straight from the CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/fast_facts/index.htm
According to National Center for Drug Abuse Statistics, drug overdose deaths are up 30% year after year. https://drugabusestatistics.org/drug-overdose-deaths/ Cocaine, opiates, and fentanyl top the charts at being the deadliest drugs. And let us not forget how many of the FDA approved pharmaceuticals are prescribed, legally, by our very own health care professionals, and approved by our government.
Below are the opening sentences of a Fact Sheet ("Prescription Drug Overdose in the United States") from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"Deaths from drug overdose have been rising steadily over the past two decades and have become the leading cause of injury death in the United States. Every day in the United States, 120 people die because of drug overdose, and another 6,748 are treated in emergency departments for the misuse or abuse of drugs."
Wouldn’t it be great if we could trust the information given to us by professionals in leadership positions or a doctor that will care and listen to what you are saying and feeling?
Health and wellness are our God given rights as human beings. It is not for the rich and or privileged. It is for every human walking on planet Earth today, tomorrow, and forever.
We have a responsibility to educate ourselves for not only ourselves but more importantly for future generations.
